Not a tour. A way into the place.

Spiti and Kinnaur aren't a checklist of viewpoints — they're villages where people farm at 4,000 metres, monasteries a thousand years old, and homes where you're fed before you're asked your name. Tribal Stories is small and local: Sunny grew up on these roads, and he travels them the way a friend would show you around — unhurried, honest, and on the side roads the big operators skip.

Choose your story.

Five ways into the high Himalaya. Pick a thread — Sunny walks it with you. Every route flexes around your dates, group and pace.

There is no wrong season — only a different Spiti. Come for the one that calls you.

Winter · Jan–MarThe white silence

The valley frozen to the horizon, monasteries steaming in the cold, and snow-leopard tracks above Kibber. Kunzum sleeps; we go the Kinnaur way.

Summer · Jun–AugThe passes open

Kunzum La and every high village unlock. Long light, running rivers, the full circuit at its most alive — the classic window.

Monsoon · Jul–SepKinnaur turns green

The rain-shadow keeps Spiti dry while lower Kinnaur runs emerald — apple orchards heavy, the Baspa full, waterfalls off every cliff.

Autumn · Sep–OctThe clear high skies

Poplars go gold, the air turns glass-clear, and the stars over Kaza are at their sharpest. The photographer's season.

The places worth the altitude.

Spiti's distances are short on the map and long on the road. These are the stops that repay every hairpin — and the ones Sunny's guests ask to go back to.

Key Monastery4,166 m

A thousand years of prayer stacked on a cliff above the river. Sunny knows the monks — arrive at the right hour and you'll be poured butter tea.

Komic4,587 m

One of the highest villages on earth with a road to it. A monastery, a dozen homes, and a silence you can hear.

Langza4,400 m

A giant Buddha watching over a village built on sea fossils. Children here will sell you an ammonite older than the Himalaya.

Chandratal4,300 m

The moon lake. A crescent of glacial blue reached over Kunzum La — camp nearby and see it change colour by the hour.

Pin Valley3,600 m

The green vein of the cold desert — a national park, the village of Mudh, and snow-leopard country in winter.

Chitkul3,450 m

The last inhabited village on the old India–Tibet road, where the Baspa runs glass-clear past timber houses.

One steady pair of hands, a lifetime of these roads.

"I was born in these mountains, and I've been driving their roads for as long as I've had a licence — through every season the passes allow. What started as dropping travellers to homestays became Tribal Stories: a small, family-run way of showing people the Spiti and Kinnaur I grew up in.

I'm not an agency. I'm the person who picks you up, drives you over Kunzum with a hundred crossings behind me, introduces you to the monks and the homestay families, and gets you home acclimatised and unhurried. Most of my guests come the old way — someone they trust travelled with me first."

If you're planning a Spiti Valley trip in Himachal, you can blindly trust Sunny. Very highly recommend. One heck of a driver — rather, a Snow Warrior. Don't worry about your group strength; you may rely on his arrangements.

An amazing experience travelling in Spiti with Sunny. He is honest, and a very heart-touching guy. If someone wishes to explore Spiti, they have to explore with 'Travel with Sunny.' Within 7 days we became good friends for life.

I've travelled with Sunny bhai for two trips in consecutive years (covering Spiti, Kalpa, Manali, Sissu) and he's already become my go-to person for Himachal trips. He's one of a kind in terms of energy, and very safe to travel with. And the guy just knows everyone — you'll see him stopping every 10 km to say hi to a local or a passing car. He sorted out many of my stay bookings on a single phone call. Highly recommend travelling with Sunny :)
